Kevin from Wolverhampton, asks: "During a recent round with a friend his grip on his wedge had come loose and he wanted to have it re-gripped at the pro shop halfway round. Surely this isn't allowed?"
Ali says: "It is allowed I'm afraid Kevin. According to rule 4-3 a, a loose grip constitutes substantial damage to the club, and hence a player may 'without unduly delaying play, repair it or have it repaired'. You could nail him for taking too long over it if you wanted to be really strict, but where's the fun in that?"
